"Pericles's Funeral Oration"

This is an initiative to stage the timeless drama “Pericles’ Funeral Oration”. The play will be free for the audience and is based on the relevant part of the history book Peloponnesian War of the ancient Greek historian Thucydides and covers Pericles’ speech in 430 BC to honor the first victims in Athens of the War that took place between 431 and 404 BC. The speech focuses on praising Athens’ Democracy and freedom. The play will be presented by professional actors in Thessaloniki. After the performance, a vivid discussion with the audience will take place focused on the meanings of the play, the significance of the upcoming European elections, the common European challenges, and the need for a more united Europe.
